Street arts performance in Siem Reap deepens Cambodia–China cultural ties

The “Cambodia–China International Street Arts Performance,” held to celebrate the Cambodia–China Tourism Year 2026, attracted large numbers of domestic and international visitors in Siem Reap province.

The event, jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism and the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, was presided over by Tourism Minister Huot Hak and his spouse.

It was attended by senior officials from respective ministries and institutions, Siem Reap Province Deputy Governor Ngov Sengkak, representatives of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, students, and more than 3,000 national and international tourists at Pub Street.

Speaking on the occasion, Sengkak said the province’s tourism development through experiential tourism, which offers diverse opportunities for visitors to engage directly with Cambodia’s culture, traditions, arts, cuisine, and heritage sites, particularly in Siem Reap.

In his remarks, Hak expressed appreciation to the Chinese side for its continued support in promoting tourism events and programmes, particularly within the framework of the Cambodia–China Tourism Year 2026, which aims to boost tourist numbers and reinforce bilateral cooperation.

He said that tourism remains a priority pillar of Cambodia’s economy, often referred to as “green gold,” playing a key role in job creation, income generation, economic growth, and cultural preservation.

The Minister also urged all stakeholders and citizens to further promote Cambodia’s tourism industry by emphasising the Kingdom’s safety, hospitality, and the famous “Cambodian smile” to attract more international visitors.

According to tourism figures, Cambodia received approximately 5.6 million international tourists in 2025, including more than 1.2 million Chinese visitors, an increase of nearly 42%, making China the second-largest source market.
